Biography
Portia was certified through the nation's largest Yoga center, Kripalu, in Lenox, MA in 1989, and has been teaching in the metro-Cambridge area since 1993.
She has been recognized as an instructor on PBS, in the Boston Globe, and as a holistic writer in her own right, appearing in Yoga International and other publications.
A Cantabrigian of 25 years with a Quaker community education, Portia was raised in Darien, CT as a young Yogi under the instruction of her father, a student of Sachindra Majumdar for 44 years, a disciple of Swami Shivananda, a disciple of Bhakti mystic and saint Sri Ramakrishna (Calcutta - 1836-86).
Portia Brockway uses her knack for saying it straight to formulate her ethereal yet grounded writing. She has been published by Poetry Motel, 57 Inc, The Empty Vessel, Yoga International, and many other publications, as a poet, an essayist and as a short story writer. She was a finalist for "Best Female Love Poem" and "Best Female Erotic Poem" at the Cambridge Poetry Awards.

Portia's photography has been published dozens of times by the hip Boston newspaper The Weekly Dig. She specializes in abstract surrealism. Her drawings are bold, whimsical and empathic. She has shown and sold her work through a variety of local venues and online.
| Portia Brockway's most recent odyssey, in collaboration with her retired vascular surgeon uncle, Robert W. Barnes, has brought forth two media productions to date: Pre- and Postnatal Yoga with Portia Brockway, and Postnatal Yoga with Portia Brockway, available in CD and DVD formats. Here Portia has carried forward her degree background in Media Communications as director, co-editor, videographer and Yoga instructor.
