Public Service
Portia Brockway is committed to public service as a Karma Yogi through all of her instruction, including time she has spent with challenged populations. As a grant recipient through the Massachusetts Yoga Network in 2007 she provided 10 Yoga sessions to drug and alcohol abusers at the Cambridge CASPAR facility (Cambridge and Somerville Program for Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation) Emergency Service Center.
Fifty copies of her new Yoga DVDs, Pre- and Postnatal Yoga with Portia Brockway were distributed free of charge to low-income pregnant women and new mothers in the Greater Boston area through the Mount Auburn OB/Gyn Associates in Arlington in the Summer of 2009, again thanks to the Mass Yoga Network Seva Project.
Portia is also involved in Cambridge's very sensible trade service association the Time Trade Circle, part of a large and growing national movement toward hour for hour services, regardless of their normal "worth". Attached is an article and photo from February 2009.
