Thai Yoga Therapy

Thai Yoga combines the two primary ancient Indian sciences of health and healing: Yoga, including the physical practices so popular today; and her sister science, Ayurveda. The practice of Ayurveda evaluates the individual for natural alternatives to conventional medicines and treatments, offering practical advice for daily self care.

The application of Thai Yoga by a practitioner on a resting recipient is a particularly calming, centering, and healing presentation of assisted Yoga postures, combined with systematic applied pressure on the "marma" points, much like the "meridians" addressed in Chinese and Shiatsu healing techniques. Thai Yoga is known for its profoundly relaxing and restorative effects, leaving the individual with restored breathing, greater range of motion, and greater balance throughout all the systems of the body.

Portia Brockway completed the first three levels of training from the Lotus Palm School of Thai Yoga and Ayurveda in October of 2007. She applies these techniques in tandem with the principles and practices of Yoga, in which she has been involved throughout her life. Ms. Brockway was certified as a Yoga instructor in 1989 through the Kripalu Center She has been teaching privately and in class format since 1993.

- Paula Federici

"I visited Portia for a Thai Yoga session because I was having a tough time resolving persistent tendinitis in my foot and leg. I had tried all sorts of treatments: rest, expensive physical therapy, etc. One session with Portia completely dissolved the pain in my foot and hugely improved the discomfort in my leg. Portia is a talented and sensitive healer; I'm grateful to have met her."
-Liv

"The combination of directed Yoga poses and the incredible stretching from Thai Yoga has been fabulous for my body and mind. I love the intimacy of practicing in my own home, and the opportunity it affords me to truly tailor each week's session to what I am most needing at that time, whether physical or emotional. It's a treat working with you."
- Vivienne Simon, Coach

I had practiced Yoga off and on for years, but Portia's clear and gentle approach combining the physical and spiritual aspects of Yoga was just what I needed at this stage of my life. It is not easy to find a teacher as grounded and attuned as Portia is, and it made my Yoga practice deeper and more satisfying."

"Yoga has been very helpful to my daughter because it helps her to integrate sensory experience. She has a multitude of physical conditions, and Yoga helps her 'be in her body' in a way that is pleasant and restorative, as well as keeps muscular - and mental - tension at bay. Portia has been very attentive, not only to my daughter, but to me, keeping me informed of her progress."
- Carolyn, Kristen's mom

"I take Yoga to relax and to improve the way that I feel and move. After a session, I feel much more relaxed, almost like a new person. Portia is very gentle, caring and makes Yoga fun. I've been taking semi- private lessons from her for one and a half years, and I plan on continuing in the future. Portia is a positive and encouraging person."
- Sasha

"I've seen positive changes in Sasha since she started Yoga. It definitely helps her relax and she is becoming more fit and active. I live across the country, and I appreciate how responsive Portia is to any questions that I have. She gives me a weekly progress report which I appreciate so much. She's a gifted instructor, and we feel lucky to have found her."
- Jenny, Sasha's mom
